Virginia Tech 40/FSU 21

Defensive End Chris Ellis signs autographs as the stands empty onto the field at Lane Stadium. VT's 40/21 victory breaks a 12-game losing streak against the FSU Seminoles, dating back to 1975.

Darryl Worley's Dickel Tour Bus in DC

Darryl traveled to DC in much better style than we did. We ran into him on the way back to Nashville and they were pretty comfortably chilling out and watching the game.

He played "Just Came Back" in front of the Vietnam Wall in front of over 10,000 people--most of whome were veterans. Darryl and General Colin Powell recieved the biggest standing ovations of the day. It was an amazing day. Thanks Darryl!

Recycled Joke Of The Week

A lobbyist on his way home from work in Washington, DC, came to a dead halt in traffic and thought to himself, "Wow, this traffic jam seems worse than usual."
Then he noticed a police officer walking between the lines of stopped cars so he rolled down his window and asked, "Officer, what's the holdup?"

The officer replied, "The President is depressed, so he stopped his motorcade and is threatening to douse himself with gasoline and set himself on fire. He says no one believes his stories about why we went to war in Iraq, or that his tax cuts will help anyone except his wealthy friends. So we're taking up a collection for him."

The lobbyist asked, "How much have you got so far?"

The officer replied, "About forty gallons, but a lot of folks are still siphoning."

What The Writers Strike Really Means

You've probably heard by now that the WGA went on strike on November 5th. So, how will that impact your life other than not being able to watch new episodes of the Daily Show and Late Night with David Letterman? Well, if you work in production in Knoxville, it might be a good thing.

First off, movies. Knoxville has never been a hot bed of movie making but the combination of our new State Film Incentive package and a rush to get as many scripts written and in production before the strike could provide a little spark--for a few months. This boost in production would grind to a halt if the Actors join the strike next summer. From what I hear of the negotiations, this strike is likely to go on for a long time. From where I sit, I would not plan on making too many movies after June of 2008 in Knoxville. Of course, we'll just go out and make our own independent projects without WGA writers, so the indie film scene should emerge virtually unscathed.

Ah, but what about television you ask? Well, look around you--see many WGA writers in town? The Guild may have a death grip on Hollywood, but their virtually non-existant in Knoxville. Production companies like Rivr and Jupiter have been getting along pretty well without the Guild for a long time. Take a look at HGTV and JTV and the situation is pretty similar, not much Guild presence. Will the networks start buying more reality based shows that don't depend on the writers? I sure hope so. Maybe they'll pick up one of my TV shows--no Guild writers here. (Seriously, four properties for sale: mention this article for a discount.)

In the long run, the writer's strike could be good for the production community of Knoxville--which is good for all of Knoxville. Don't get me wrong, I'll miss the Daily Show and the Oscars wouldn't be the same without all the terrible writing, oh wait, maybe they would... Anyway, if Knoxville gets an extra movie and a few TV shows out of the deal--that works for me. Sorry John Stewart, gotta put the mortgage payment first. Now, let's get out there and sell some shows people!

For more information about the strike visit Entertainment Weekly. If you totally disagree with what I'm saying, shoot me an email and I'll post it here. I think the writers are right to strike, I'm just okay with benefitting a little from the process!

The Last Person You'd Expect To See In A Macintosh Ad

I found this page from the DigiBarn archives and thought I would share. It is from a brochure for the original Mac and features Mr. Bill Gates prominently.

From his quote one would think he really liked Macs.

More fun from 80s Off

80s Off

80s Off is about two guys stuck in the 80s and willing to battle to be the top 80s icon. It is a battle of epic proportions. A team of local filmmakers including Trevor Greene, Scott W Lee, Steve Miller, Chris Harris, Linds Edwards, Brian Garton, Molly McDuffie, Rebecca Bradley and a few others came out to just have a good time and shoot a little video. The video, made for web release, is a short written, directed and produced as a collective of the group we are simply calling "The Team." here are some photos of "The Team." (not sure I have to use quotes every time I say "The Team," but I think it looks cooler)

While I'm Stuck in Lake City...

please allow me to tell you about the Camera Cart. This is how I get to go to all those football games. You will see something like this at every televised football game. A camera is mounted in the basket and an operator belts himself in. I sit in the chair and raise the basket in the air. I then drive back and forth on the sideline throughout the game.
Pretty good gig when you can get there.
WAIT...
Who's that in the woods?

I'll tell you more about the cart later...
